Our Starting Point

Horgan & Webb specialises in the sympathetic repair, restoration and conservation of traditional buildings.

Britain is unique in Europe in the number of its traditional buildings still standing, ranging from humble brick terraces to great mansions, and from imposing farmhouses to small cottages.

All of them require special treatment if they are to be fit for the 21st century and yet remain faithful to their origins. Horgan & Webb is committed to doing just that, using the materials and techniques which will ensure that they survive.

Our Ethos

At Horgan & Webb we pride ourselves on helping a building function as it was designed to. Old buildings with solid walls were meant to breathe, and damp was kept at bay by good drainage, ventilation and the use of breathable materials.

The biggest cause of damp, decay and cracking in traditional buildings is the unsympathetic use of the wrong materials. This country has a precious heritage of traditional buildings, but it is a heritage that needs care and attention. Our aim is to provide that.

Our Methods

Wherever possible we use traditional materials and techniques - not only because they look better, but because they are best for the building. We will also use modern materials - such as limecrete - if their use is appropriate to the building. We avoid using cementitious materials, preferring instead to use lime. All wall coverings, renders and paints we use are breathable and flexible, to allow an old building to regulate its moisture content and 'move' with the seasons as it was designed to do.

Our Services

We undertake projects of all sizes, from single rooms up to total building refurbishments. We can also prepare reports based on a thorough inspection of a property, outlining what may need to be done to deal with any problems that may exist. This service is aimed at prospective buyers and at those who feel competent enough to tackle their own work. Feel free to contact us without any obligation.
